Ben Jones-Bishop slams rival player as ‘cowardly’ and RFL for ‘inept’ disciplinary process

Ben Jones-Bishop had the opportunity to play alongside his brother Aaron for Jamaica on Friday night against the England Knights.

However, Aaron – who plays for Hunslet in League 1 – was previously suspended for for eight matches after being found guilty of a Grade F charge of “Other Contrary Behaviour – biting” in the Betfred League 1 fixture against Rochdale Hornets on August 22. He was also found not guilty of a separate Grade C charge of punching in the same fixture.

That ban meant that Aaron could not walk out for the Reggae Warriors at the Jungle for Friday night’s game in what was Castleford star Jordan Turner’s testimonial game.

And, Ben has spoken out vociferously against both Rochdale and the RFL for the ban.

Ben posted on Instagram: “Great to have the family supporting last night but absolutely gutted that I wasn’t able to play alongside my brother due to the lack of integrity of @rochdalehornets , one of their players and the inept @rugbyfootballleague disciplinary process.

“My brother was banned 8 games for alleged biting after being punched repeatedly. Was accused of throwing a punch where video footage clearly shows he didn’t.

“Family or not, for a player to ruin another’s season and possible international selection by making up an allegation to justify his actions I find cowardly.

“I know how hard my brother has worked off the field to be in great shape when he finally got a chance at @hunsletrlfcofficial and put himself in a position to be available for selection.

“I know this has hit him hard and hope no other player has to go through a similar situation.”
