Batley snap up halfback Gilmore

Batley have confirmed the signing of scrum-half Tom Gilmore for 2021.

The 26-year-old was due to join the newly-formed Ottawa Aces franchise next season but, following their deferral of entry until 2022, will now link up with the Bulldogs.

Gilmore brings with him several years of experience at both Super League and Championship level, having had spells with Widnes, Halifax and, most recently, Salford.

“Craig (Lingard) knows what I am,” said Gilmore. “I’m an old-school seven, so I think he’ll give me the reigns of the team and let me direct the team.

“We’ve got a lot of big lads here so hopefully we can get them on the front foot and win a lot of games.”

Bulldogs’ boss Lingard added: “Tom will be a great fit for us. He brings a wealth of experience at the highest level, and a strong knowledge of Championship rugby league as well.

“We’re looking forward to working with him, he’ll be a massive asset to the squad.”
