Barrie McDermott says “the jury is still out” on Super League side

Barrie McDermott

On Sky Sports this week Rugby League is pundits have been tasked with providing MOTs for Super League clubs designed to determine whether sides have passed or failed their start to the season.

Barrie McDermott was tasked with assessing last year’s semi-finalists Salford Red Devils who have won three of their opening six games scoring some sensational tries in their best win of the season against Hull FC: 60-14 but they ran out of steam against Wigan Warriors on Friday after a top performance.

However to McDermott the jury is out on them:

“The jury is out. Salford with the ball in hand they are exciting and they all flood through. The spine they have got is special.

“Where they are lacking a bit, is resilience. When they get behind I’m not sure they have the the ability to get back into games. They rely on the team falling away.

“Against Wakefield, they were lucky against a team low on confidence and low on quality.

“Their strategy is based on offence.”

The Red Devils were excellent for 65 minutes scoring two excellent tries through Ken Sio.

They also showed some amazing defence too to hold out consecutive sets on their own line from the Warriors at the start of the second half.

However, in the end the individual brilliance of the Warriors saw them home
