Barrie McDermott says its a “struggle” watching this Super League club

As Super League takes a break for the Challenge Cup, now is a good time to reflect on the season so far.

Barrie McDermott did so on BBC Five Live and said he is struggling to watch bottom club Wakefield Trinity.

He said this as he looked ahead to their meeting with Leigh Leopards in the Challenge Cup/

“You struggle when you watch Wakefield to see what they’re trying to do when they get in the right end of the field,” he said.

“They look like they’re too nervous, they’re too anxious, they’re not functioning properly as a team. It’s a shame to see them where they are.

“As for Leigh though, they have been unbelievable this year. Full credit to the club, full credit to Derek and Adrian Lam.

“They’ve put together a squad that plays some good stuff with the ball, they’re entertaining to watch, they’re not a five drives and a kick type of team, they’re a really, really skilful, quick team that are just beating sides and they’re winning with a bit to spare as well, so they’re a great side to watch.

“It’s hard to make a case for Wakey but in all honesty, when teams are in this position, the cup isn’t that important for them. They’ve got to get some points on the competition board.

“It’s sad for Wakey.”
