Barrie McDermott likens Warrington to one of Super League’s greatest teams

Warrington Wolves face their biggest test of the season so far as they travel to the South of France to take on Catalans Dragons who went into the round second behind the Wolves at the top.

Always a difficult place to go, it will be a real test of whether the Wolves are the real deal in 2023.

Barrie McDermott certainly thinks they might be likening them to one of the best ever teams in Super League history: the Bradford Bulls side who dominated thanks to a powerful pack.

On the Eddie and Stevo podcast, McDermott said:

“I said at the beginning of the year that it would be a very exciting year but I’ve started to form an opinion on what they look like when they’re playing well.

“Cast your minds back to a great side and the Bradford side of the early noughties. I know I’m going back some years but the formula they had was a big pack, it had a little mobility and a little bit of offload but it was predominantly about power.

“They had a couple of cheeky half-backs and they has some real pace on the edges and strike, and that’s what Warrington have got.

“The more I’ve watched them the more they remind me of that really dominant period when Bradford has the awesome foursome and demolished everything in their path.”
