Barrie McDermott claims star Super League signings “struggled” to settle in

Wigan Warriors’ focus going into 2023 was finding centres and they brought in ex-Huddersfield Giants and Warrington Wolves duo Toby King and Jake Wardle.

They have added to Wigan’s strike and Sky Sports Brian Carney is more than impressed:

“What Wigan Warriors do have is plenty of strike out wide. It came to the front against Leeds Rhinos in the Challenge Cup in the shape of the magnificent Jake Wardle.

“Centre is a position they recruited heavily in pre-season. There were question marks at the start of the season but they are showing their quality now.”

Barrie McDermott did say he felt they took a while to settle in at the club:

“If you look back at the start of the season, they struggled to work their way into the side Jake Wardle and Toby King.

“You struggled to understand where they would fit into the patterns of play they play with.

“Wardle has pace and can ride a tackle and Toby King is the same. He is dynamic and smart in defence.”

But Carney nonetheless feels Wardle is a “graceful” player stating:

“I think he is a graceful player is Jake Wardle.”

Wardle and King could be key to getting Wigan back to the Grand Final and ending a five year wait for the Super League title.
