Barrie McDermott blasts Hull FC

Sky Sports pundit Barrie McDermott has given his season review on all the 12 Super League teams, and, it really isn’t good viewing for Hull FC fans.

The Airlie Birds came into the 2021 season full of hope and optimism with the appointment of Brett Hodgson as head coach.

That hope swelled early on in the year with FC occupying a top four spot, but that went downhill quickly following a COVID-19 outbreak and a number of severe injuries.

Their season was derailed with Hull ending the year in eighth and Barrie McDermott has called for better recruitment ahead of 2022.

“There’s no doubt about it, it has been a poor year for Hull FC. The potential the Black and Whites have shown when it has gone right, allows the supporters to dream about what can be possible for the club, but they’re not quite there yet,” McDermott said.

“It looks like, similar to Ian Watson at Huddersfield, it is early in the day to be fully assessing the job Brett Hodgson has done at Hull FC.

“As the season progressed it was evident that more of the established players at the MKM Stadium were being outshone by the young members of the team, who will get more game time in 2022. If they get their recruitment and retention right next season it could be very bright for the black and whites.”
