Bad news for Leeds Rhinos fans ahead of Wigan Warriors clash

A lot if often made of attendances and crowd size in rugby league and that is true of away support as well.

Often we will see pictures of supporters in away ends on social media with others either commending the numbers taken or expressing disappointment at how many made the trip.

Some trips are easier than others of course. A local derby is as easy as they come but crossing the Pennines can be much more difficult especially on an evening after work striving to get across for an 8 o’clock kick-off.

Many supporters these days use trains to make their way across but that is not an option for one set of fans this week.

Wigan Warriors vs Leeds Rhinos is one of the biggest games in Super League. It has history two with the pair meeting in the inaugural Grand Final in 1998 as well as the 2015 decider with one win a piece.

You’d expect a big away following for a big game, as we saw from Leeds when they last played there in the semi-finals last season.

However, that may be more difficult for Leeds fans this time with rail strikes taking place tomorrow which will make it difficult for some fans to get across.

This is the same for the Magic Weekend in June as rugby league is the latest sport hit by the strikes.
