Australian publication claims Leigh Leopards star is set for NRL return as seven potential destinations named

Following the departure of Nene MacDonald to Leeds Rhinos, the Leigh Leopards’ squad finally seemed settled as they were finally meeting the quota rules of Super League when it comes to overseas players.

However, in the wake of this announcement, Rugby League Live reported that another overseas star at Leigh Sports Village was set to leave the club due to homesickness.

That is of course star signing Blake Ferguson. The former NRL winner left the competition for rugby union prior to making the switch to Leigh Leopards.

He helped them win the 1895 Cup Final at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium, finish top of the Championship prior to guiding the club to promotion to Super League with victory over Batley Bulldogs in the Championship Grand Final as he scored tries for fun and was seen as the in form player in the UK by some.

Leigh did well to tie him down to a two-year deal going into Super League, after all there had been rumours that NRL clubs were interested before he made the move to the then Centurions.

He was listed in the Leopards’ 2023 squad reveal, as was MacDonald for that matter, but now he is set to return home due to homesickness and according to Zerotackle, he is set to return to the NRL with a number of clubs said to potentially hold an interest in him.

The Dolphins, Titans, Manly, North Queensland, Penrith, St George Illawarra and the Roosters could all have an interest according to the publication though they all have set backlines going into the new season.
