Australian hooker joins UK club after trial

Doncaster have confirm the signing of Australian hooker Josh Veacock for the remainder of the 2023 season.

Veacock has impressed head coach Richard Horne during a trial with the club which included appearances against Workington Town and Dewsbury Rams.

He made the bold decision to pursue a career in England and used social media to make contact with clubs, leading him to the desk of Dons chief executive Carl Hall. Paying for his own visa and travel costs, Veacock travelled to the UK in search of a trial and secured a spell at Cantley Park.

And the move has paid off with a contract for the rest of 2023 for Veacock, who previously featured for Toukley on Australia’s Central Coast.

Speaking about the deal, Veacock said: “The lads are heaps welcoming, a great bunch of lads and I couldn’t feel more at home.

“I can be pretty dangerous if I get a quick play of the ball and there’s a fair bit of push.”

Hall said: “It’s the least Josh deserves – not only because of his obvious quality as a player but the commitment and effort he’s put in to creating this opportunity for himself.”

Horne added: “Joshua has impressed in training. He’s shown versatility, as he can play as a 13 or 9. Now he’s signed and settled we think there’s even more to come from him.”
