Warrington Wolves winger Matty Ashton has said he is ready to fight for a starting spot at the club.

Ashton signed for the club after an incredible debut season in the Championship with Swinton Lions, where he scored 30 tries in 25 games.

When asked what his targets were this season, he said: “I want to make my Super League debut and hopefully retain a spot.

“I haven’t come here just to sit on the bench or play in the reserves. I want to get a chance and show what I can do.”

The 21-year-old was also rewarded with the Championship Player of the Year award, and believes he is ready for a chance at the Super League.

He added: “I think my body’s ready. Its just about getting that chance and showing what I can do. Its about having that confidence.

“It’s a top league so it will be tough but it’s about having the confidence and believing your own ability. I think I can do it.”

Ashton could make his debut for the Wolves during Mike Cooper’s testimonial against Salford Red Devils on 23rd January.
