Arsenal proud to host Rugby League World Cup semi-final

Tomorrow’s Rugby League World Cup semi-final between England and Samoa is set to take place at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

The game sees the two meet again after England defeat Samoa comprehensively 60-6 in the opening game of the tournament and thus Samoa are out for revenge.

Matt Parish’s side have massively improved since that game and has massive pedigree with so many NRL winners in the side alongside Super League stars like Tim Lafai and Ligi Sao.

If they win they will play in a first World Cup Final whilst victory for England would hand them a chance to right the wrongs of their 2017 final defeat to Australia.

It’s a big day for Arsenal with a rare rugby game taking place at the home of the Premier League leaders and the Premier League club appear to be very pleased to host the event.

They believe it shows the growing reputation the stadium has in the wider world.

In a statement on the club said:

“After their victory over Papua New Guinea last Saturday, England are on their way to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday where they will face a formidable Samoa side who edged out Tonga to secure their own place in the Rugby League World Cup 2021 men’s semi-final.

“Originally due to take place last year, the match will decide which team progresses to the World Cup final next week.

“Hosting the semi-final of a major global sports event is another example of Emirates Stadium’s growing reputation as a world-class multi-purpose venue in the heart of London.

“In June 2023 Arctic Monkeys will play two shows at the stadium as part of their major UK and Ireland tour, just one year after The Killers brought their Imploding the Mirage tour to Emirates Stadium, with two spectacular sold-out events in June 2022.

“Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, Green Day and Kaiser Chiefs are some of the other global acts who have also played at Emirates Stadium since it opened in 2006.”
