Anthony Gelling trial latest

The assault trial of former Warrington Wolves star and current Leigh Centurion Anthony Gelling has been delayed, the Warrington Guardian has confirmed.

Gelling was due to stand trial at Liverpool Crown Court today, Wednesday, accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm on partner Toni Mackey.

But proceedings were adjourned for the day due to the illness of the prosecuting barrister, and it is anticipated that the case will instead be opened tomorrow, Thursday.

Warrington head coach Steve Price and assistant Lee Briers were present in the public gallery during a short hearing this morning, in which Gelling spoke only to confirm his name.

The 30-year-old centre, who now plays for Leigh, allegedly assaulted Ms Mackey during an incident at the couple’s home on Cronton Lane Mew in Widnes on February 6 last year. She attended Whiston Hospital the following day having suffered ‘serious’ injuries, including a fractured eye socket.

Gelling signed for the Wolves ahead of the 2020 campaign from Widnes Vikings before leaving the club by mutual consent at the end of last season. He has since played two games for Leigh.
