Another Super League star player makes loan move

Castleford Tigers have confirm that Albert Vete has joined Featherstone Rovers on a two-week loan deal.

Albert joined The Tigers at the start of the 2023 season and has featured four times for the club so far.

Castleford Tigers Interim Head Coach Andy Last said, “We had a look at Albie on a couple of occasions this year and this week we’ve decided to go in a different direction. It’s difficult to carry him and Suaia [Matagi], they’re very similar in what they bring, but I feel Suaia is just offering a little bit more than Albert at the minute. I think it’s key for Albert’s development to keep playing. At the end of the loan period he will have played 4 weeks of consistent Rugby League. Featherstone is a good club at the top end of the Championship. They’ve got some tough games so it will be good for Albert to get some game time over there.”

The New Zealand born prop-forward, Vete, will bolster Sean Long’s side ahead of this Friday’s clash with Batley and has been immediately drafted into the 21-man squad along with fellow loanee Aydin.

The 30-year old former New Zealand Warriors has also appeared for Melbourne Storm in the NRL and more recently Hull KR and Castleford Tigers in Super League.

Head Coach Long commented on the addition of Vete stating: “The last few weeks have taken a toll on the team on the injury front mainly to our middles and we have brought in two quality players to bolster our pack going forward into the next couple of weeks.

“Aydin and Vete are two quality players of proven top level experience and it is great to have them both on board with us.”
