Another Leigh player makes short term Championship move

Another young Leigh Leopards player has left the club on loan.

This time it is Jacob Jones who joins London Broncos on a month long loan deal.

Jones, who is a graduate of the clubs academy and a former first team player, joins the club for the next 5 weeks from Super League side Leigh Leopards.

On the arrival of Jones, London Broncos Director of Rugby and Performance Mike Eccles said;

“I’m delighted to bring Jacob back down to London for the next 5 weeks. Jonesy is a player I know very well and someone I regard extremely highly. I know he’ll give everything for the shirt and the group during his spell with us. He gives us great options in  both the back row and middle.

On behalf of London Broncos, I’d like to thank the Leigh club and in particular Chris Chester for getting this loan deal done quickly and seamlessly. I’m sure it will be a mutually beneficial piece of business.”

This comes after Halifax Panthers confirmed that Jacob Gannon has joined the club on an initial one moan loan from Super League side Leigh Leopards.

The 21 year old, the eldest son of former Fax enforcer Jim Gannon, came through the system at Warrington Wolves before making the move to the Leigh Sports Village this winter. The England Academy international has previously enjoyed spells on loan with Bradford Bulls, York Knights and Rochdale Hornets.

And Panthers head coach Simon Grix was happy to make an addition to his pack following the release of Ryan King earlier in the week.

“It’s no secret that we haven’t a huge squad, so we welcome Jacob in for a month. He is a smart player with some versatility so he ticks some boxes for us. He’s come through a strong system at Warrington and did well for the Bulls last year, so the Championship should hold no surprises for him.”

The young prop will immediately link up with his hometown club and will be available for selection for Sunday’s Betfred Championship Round 6 ‘battle of the big cats’ clash with newly promoted Keighley Cougars.

Gannon is the older brother of Leeds Rhinos star Morgan Gannon who is again absent for Rohan Smith’s side after a head knock against Hull FC.
