Another friendly cancelled due to cold weather

York RLFC have confirmed that tomorrow’s pre-season friendly against Batley Bulldogs at the LNER Community Stadium has been called off due to a frozen pitch.

The decision was taken following a pitch inspection alongside representatives from the Rugby Football League and the York Stadium Management Company and in agreement with Batley Bulldogs.

Despite the best efforts of the York Stadium Management Company and their ground staff, the pitch was deemed unsuitable to be played on at this time.

The Knights begin their 2023 Betfred Championship campaign against Widnes Vikings at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday 5th February (3pm).

This makes it the second fixture to do so after Doncaster vs Newcastle Thunder.

Doncaster have confirmed that their pitch is one of those that have been bitten by the cold.

Their clash against Newcastle Thunder has been called off due to a pitch inspection,

They made the following statement:

“Our friendly against Newcastle Thunder has been called off on safety grounds following a pitch inspection at the Eco-Power Stadium.”

Leeds have now confirmed that today’s game will definitely go ahead after fears it could follow other games in other sports and be cancelled due to a frozen pitch.

In a statement on Twitter, they said:

“Despite the dip in temperatures in recent days, the undersoil heating at Leigh Leopards will make sure that this afternoon’s game goes ahead, remember to wrap up warm, kick off 3pm.”
