Andy Last underlines desperation to take on Castleford job

Castleford Tigers ended their losing run last night by defeating Leeds Rhinos at the Jungle last night.

Speaking after the game, interim coach Andy Last said they needed the win “really badly” as he reflected on his second game in charge.

He said: “Really badly, that was evident in the performance, there was a connection with the fans and they saw a team that cared.

“The way we celebrated errors, the way that we celebrated our tries, it was infectious and it spread into the crowd.

“That is what the fans want to see. Sometimes you see that execution isn’t great but you just want to see effort and we saw that tonight.”

He opened up on how much it meant to him: “Personally it means a lot. I want to thank all the backroom staff. It has been a difficult few weeks but the way they have stuck in has been great.

“Same with the players, last week was difficult but one to eighteen with Muizz Mustapha coming in at late notice it was a team effort and everyone behind the scenes.”

Last then underlined how much he wanted the job permanently:

“I hope so, I really want it. The team showed how much they wanted me to get a win. I am experienced, I have done the assistant coach for a while, I am desperate to take over and hopefully if we can have a few more performances like that I can lead this club moving forward.”
