Castleford Tigers suffered their eighth defeat of the season as Andy Last’s first game as permanent head coach of the Tigers ended in a 12-7 defeat.

Speaking after the game, he explained what went wrong.

“No definitely not,” he said if anyone could complain about the effort on Sky Sports.

“I thought in the first half we played the way I want us to play with plenty of shape and moving the ball but in the second half we made some unforced errors, dropped balls.

“What I spoke about at halftime was to just keep playing our way but unfortunately we weren’t able to piece together a full 80 minute performance.

“They scored a couple of soft tries which I am disappointed with.”

He went on to note significant moment that contributed to their defeat in the shape of losing Joe Westerman:

“Yeah it was hugely significant. I thought it was a physical contact with a head knock straight in the face so obviously he couldn’t continue.

“He gives us organisation in the middle of the field and we’re a better team when he is on the field.

“I think a key moment was making the right decision to kick the drop goal, that was the right decision in a tight game but straight after we make an unforced error when no one wants to take the kick off and that put is right on our try line and we miss a tackle there and straight after being 7-6 up in the blink of an eye we were 12-7 down and that summed us up.”
