Sky Sports commentator Kyle Amor believes Mikey Lewis tried to ‘con the referee’ in the second half of the clash between Hull KR and St Helens. The two sides met tonight at the Totally Wicked Stadium, with the winner knowing they would end round four on top of the Super League table.
Rovers ended the first half with a four point lead thanks to tries from Lewis, who was stepping back into the side after the ankle injury he picked up in round two, and Tom Davies, who finished acrobatically in the corner just before the interval. However, the Man of Steel was involved in an incident that will have confused most of those watching as he appeared to rip the ball out of his own teammates hand.
At first glance it seemed Sam Luckley had knocked the ball on in the tackle, with Tristan Sailor applying pressure in the tackle. Rovers skipper Elliot Minchella used his captain’s challenge to question the call and that allowed spectators and the video referee to take a closer look at how the ball came free.
What they saw was Sailor wrestling Luckley in the challenge before Lewis’ hand appears to pull the ball free. The challenge was unsuccessful and St Helens were awarded the scrum, with the moment leaving commentators Mark Wilson and Amor flabbergasted.
“Mikey Lewis there I think he’s just trying to con the referee,” Amor told Sky Sports viewers. “Sailor’s got an enormous grip on that ball with Sam Luckley and as it comes down it puts his arm in a difficult position and then the rake from Mikey Lewis right in front of Jack Smith.
“It certainly is an own goal. I think Mikey Lewis just tries to con the referee and he was having none of it.”
The loss of possession didn’t seem to impact Willie Peters’ side too much in the second half, though, with Oliver Gildart scoring twice to give Hull KR a commanding lead.

He conned the referee also when he milked a tackle & got a penalty. He’s a rat & always will be , until the referees realise what he really is this will continue.
