American rugby league could be about to change as a new group is established with the aim of taking control of the sport in America according to Rugby League Planet.

The Commission for Rugby League in the United States has been formed and has appointed an independent executive board to oversee the sport across the pond.

They have made some major appointments including the man who has spearheaded Fijia’s success in the rugby 7s, Rob Kauvesi and Major League Baseball personnel.

This was confirmed in a statement which goes on to say, “The heavy hitters added to the advisory board are John Paul Basile, who has previously worked for the NBA and done extensive research on the viability of the sport in the US market.

“Former USA captain and NRL player David Nui joins the advisory board, along with Peter O’Doherty from NAB Creative, who brings a wealth of experience from his service on tourism boards.”

The Commission intends to revive the USA All-Stars, the original American side that will mark its 70th anniversary in 2023.

They have contacted all stakeholders in the game and encouraged them to apply for suitable positions.

That said, the IRL have responded to this by saying it has had no discussions with them.

They argue that the US Association of Rugby League Inc (USARL Inc) is the official national governing body in the country.

This new commission will look to the Asia Pacific Rugby League to officially ratify its constitution.
