Amazing Rob Burrow tribute made at Super League Grand Final

Rob Burrow

Leeds Rhinos Legends Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield know everything about achieving success at Old Trafford in the Super League Grand Final.

Together they won seven Grand Finals and Burrow won a further title in 2017.

The two make up half of the players to win the Harry Sunderland Award twice in Super League alongside Danny McGuire and James Roby.

But the duo have been fighting a more important battle to raise money for MND after Burrow’s diagnosis and at the Grand Final yesterday, Northern were behind the unveiling of a fantastic tribute.

They made the following statement:

“A huge mural of Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow will be unveiled at the Super League Grand Final today.

“The Pride of Britain Award-winner’s family will be on the pitch for the unveiling of the work, which is called ‘Brothers In Arms’ and was designed by Jimmy Thwaite from East Yorkshire as part of a competition by the train operator, Northern.

“Northern is an official partner of the Super League and has sponsored the Community Stand at the event at Old Trafford today.”

Mark Powles, commercial and customer director at Northern, said: “Our long-standing partnership with Super League has always been about enabling children and families across the North of England to get involved with rugby and benefit from the community spirit of the game.

“Many of the designs submitted as part of the competition featured Rob and I think everyone agrees that he exemplifies the spirit of the game and the positive connection between its teams.”
Commenting on his artwork, Jimmy Thwaite said: “I called it ‘Brothers In Arms’ because what Kevin Sinfield has done for Rob Burrow is everything that is good about rugby league.

“For me, rugby league is about community and brings together work ethic, charity, places and people. We’re not the biggest, but we can be the best.”

Jimmy Thwaite’s design was one of eight shortlisted as part of the competition, with runners-up taking home a number of other prizes including signed rugby shirts, rugby balls and weekend train tickets.

Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with 2,500 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.
