Everyone knows that rugby league is an immensely tough sport.
However, sometimes that passion and dedication can spill over in awful ways – as a Pilkington Recs player found out when the club played Castleford Lock Lane.
A Lock Lane forward – as shown in the video below – was given an eight-match games for the incident in this horrific attack, and another eight for using his head in the tackle which left an opposing prop with a broken jaw.
The increase in violence at a grassroots level is something which needs to be addressed, with the violence sometimes even spilling out against officials.
Earlier this year, referee Joe Stearne was subjected to an abhorrent assault whilst officiating a match, which resulted in a lifetime ban for the perpetrator, but more needs to be done to stamp out this kind of behaviour for good.
