After a referee was hospitalised on Thursday night following an amateur fixture, the allegations of racist abuse on a player last night was not exactly what the sport needed.

Hemel played Bedford in a tasty fixture, only for one player to leave the field “in tears” according to one parent after being subject to alleged racist abuse.

The travelling players had already complained about the state of the ground which met them with no changing rooms and toilets anywhere near the pitch.

That pitch was barely marked with barely working floodlights and a situation with closed stands which meant penalties could not be kicked into touch, according to one unlucky viewer.

Another Twitter user has called on the governing body to try and stamp out such problems, with an investigation surely around the corner.
