Ahead of the 19th instalment of Magic Weekend kicking off tomorrow, we have taken a look at the all-time table for games played over the two-day festival of rugby league.
First introduced in 2007, the event has run annually since it’s inception, with the only exception being 2020 when it was cancelled due to Covid-19.
Only seven teams have competed in every Magic event, whilst Castleford’s Joe Westerman and St Helens legend James Roby are tied at the top of the all-time appearance charts for players.
In what is a quite surprising fact, it is Huddersfield Giants that sit top of the all-time table, after winning 12 and drawing one of their 18 Magic fixtures. The Claret and Gold side actually picked up their first win of the 2025 season at the event last year, but Jim Lenihan has already reaffirmed that history has no effect this week, with his side’s sole focus on improving their performances week-to-week.
Following Wigan’s win over Warrington last year, it meant that Matt Peet’s side jumped over Wire into second, with the Warriors sitting three points behind Huddersfield on 22.
Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR come next, whilst Castleford Tigers sit in sixth and round out the proverbial ‘play-off places’.
St Helens have won just 50% of their Magic games, whilst Catalans Dragons and Hull FC come next, and are the last two teams to have featured in every event.
Promoted sides Toulouse Olympique and Bradford Bulls sit bottom. Toulouse is understandable given they have only played in one event, but Bradford have played eight Magic games, and won one – against Wakefield in 2009.
York Knights will become the 18th Super League team to play in the event, and history tells us they face the toughest test of them all, given that their opponents are the all-time Magic table toppers.
