‘All the pressure is on them’ – Matt Dufty makes Hull KR point and points to major Warrington Wolves boost

Warrington Wolves

All the pressure is Hull KR heading into Saturday’s Challenge Cup final, says Warrington Wolves’ Matt Dufty.

The Robins are the overwhelming favourites to get their hands on the first piece of silverware this weekend at Wembley, with Willie Peters’ side being heavily tipped to build on the form they have shown all season and end their 40-year trophy drought.

That’s music to Warrington’s ears, though, who will be taking proud ownership of the underdog tag they have been given, with Dufty outlining that the Wolves can approach the final without the type of expectation that is on Rovers.

“They’re a very well oiled machine,” Dufty told Serious About RL when asked for his thoughts on Saturday’s opponents. “They have a game plan that they stick to and they’re good defensively so they’re hard to break down.

“For us it’s a challenge that we have to overcome and a challenge we have to embrace. They have all the pressure on them and our season has been a bit up and down but anything can happen in a final, there’s no next week.

“It’s going to be massive but hopefully we just turn up and do our job.”

Matt Dufty on the impact of Warrington Wolves’ returning skipper

Of course, one thing that will bolster the belief in the Warrington camp is the return of George Williams. The skipper had surgery on his ankle just seven week ago, but he has bee passed fit to play at Wembley and for Dufty, his return could well prove to be a game changer.

“George is going to be massive for me and massive for the team,” he said. “He really helps me play my best footy and takes the pressure off in attack. When me and George are connected I think it helps us immensely.

“We follow each other around the field and we seem to pop up with each other when good things happen. If we’re connected that goes a long way towards us playing well.

“George really knows how to put me in spots that I enjoy. When you’re lacing up your boots and you look across to see George putting his on too, it gives you confidence because he’s our captain and he leads by example. I don’t think he’s ever won a Challenge Cup from memory so nothing would have kept him out of this game.

“He’s the England captain for a reason. He’s probably one of the most competitive people I’ve met in my entire life and he’s going to do everything he can to win us the game.”
