As his team completed the great escape on the pitch last night, St Helens prop Alex Walmsley did the same off it as he subbed himself and rushed to hospital to attend the birth of his first son.
Unfortunately though, the 27-year-old wasn’t quite quick enough with a swift labour meaning his son was already born before he could get there.
Following the stressful episode, Walmsley took to Twitter to post pictures while still wearing the full St Helens kit from the match against Wakefield.
Sorry I had to finish my shift a little early last night but I needed to miss the traffic 😉
Welcome to the world Atticus John Walmsley 😘♥️ pic.twitter.com/S7gxC7DkB0

St Helens coach Justin Holbrook told the media after the game: “He’s had a baby boy and she had it very quickly.
“He’s on his way now. I’ve just spoken to him. He’s thrilled that we won and I’m thrilled for him.”
