Aidan Sezer makes first appearance at Headingley

Aidan Sezer has made his first appearance at Headingley Stadium ahead of the brand new 2022 Super League season.

He was snapped in a Leeds Rhinos tracksuit with the number 7 emblazoned on the chest as he gets ready to run out in his new colours.

It will be a familiar story for Sezer though as he has history with halfback partner Blake Austin from the duo’s time at the Canberra Raiders in the NRL.

And, Austin spoke to Rhinos TV about how excited he is to link up with former teammate Sezer.

“I’m very excited to spend a lot more time with Aidan,” Austin said.

“He followed me on the way over here to the UK and now to pull on a jersey together will be vey exciting.”

For Sezer – who was nominated as Man of Steel in his first season as a Huddersfield Giant back in 2020 – a change of scenery with an old familiar face could just be the tonic the 30-year-old needs to go one better and win something.

Whilst his 2021 season was full of injury problems, Sezer just still managed 24 appearances in two seasons, scoring nine tries, kicking 61 goals as well as two drop-goals and he will be integral in how the Rhinos tick in 2022.

That, coupled with Luke Gale’s departure to Hull FC, has left the pressure on both Austin and Sezer to perform even greater, but the Aussie duo will certainly be the difference between winning a trophy and not for the West Yorkshire club.
