It’s December and competitive match action is still a little over two months away for Super League fans. However, top flight teams are in pre-season action as early as Boxing Day with Leeds Rhinos taking on Wakefield Trinity in their traditional meeting at Headingley Stadium.
Most other Super League outfits will be in action for the first time in mid-January with pre-season friendlies preparing them for the long and winding season ahead. The campaign is still some way off then, but we’ve decided to take a look at who the runners and riders could be in the next Man of Steel race.
Mikey Lewis is the current holder of the award. The Hull KR playmaker was given the honour in October after helping the Robins reach their first ever Grand Final.
He pipped Matt Dufty and Marc Sneyd to the award with the Warrington Wolves and Salford Red Devils favourites also being shortlisted and he will be hoping to kick on in 2025 and become the first person since Paul Sculthorpe in 2002 to retain the award.
With that in mind, we asked Chat GPT to predict who will win the 2025 Man of Steel. The AI programme was unable to name just one player, but it was able to provide five potential contenders, with Lewis being top of the pile. He was joined by Wigan Warriors, St Helens and Warrington stars.
Here’s what Chat GPT said when asked about the 2025 Man of Steel race:
Predicting the 2025 Man of Steel winner is speculative, but based on current form and potential, here are some top contenders:
Mikey Lewis (Hull KR)
The reigning 2024 Man of Steel, Lewis is a dynamic playmaker and key figure for Hull KR. If he maintains his form and leadership, he could defend his title.
Bevan French (Wigan Warriors)
A game-changing talent, French’s speed and attacking flair make him a favorite. His performances with Wigan have been pivotal in their recent successes.
Jack Welsby (St Helens)
Welsby’s versatility and influence in games make him a perennial contender. He’s the backbone of St Helens’ success and could be in line for the award again.
George Williams (Warrington Wolves)
The England halfback has been in excellent form, and if Warrington perform well, Williams will be at the heart of their charge, putting him in strong contention for the award.
Jai Field (Wigan Warriors)
Another standout for Wigan, Field’s attacking brilliance and consistent performances could see him push for the top individual honors.
The Man of Steel often goes to a player whose performances are crucial to their team’s success and who consistently influences matches. Players from top teams like Wigan Warriors or Hull KR are usually strong contenders for the award.
The winner will ultimately depend on individual performances, team achievements, and the overall impact on the season. Keep an eye on players who dominate both in attack and defense as the 2025 season unfolds.

But it gives stand out points for performances for players in a team that isn’t very good! Big Fish Small Pond!
Each team should be marked appropriately with a 3 2 1 for each player in the team
eg; HKR v Wigan
Who are the stand out 3 players for HKR? The same for Wigan the stand out 3 players. Award 321 for each team not the best overall in one game.
And so on with each teams stand out players get points in each match.
