Agar excited by Saints test

Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Richard Agar has stated that his side will have to be at their very best for their next match against St Helens this Sunday.

The Rhinos have amassed four consecutive victories that has helped them to the top of the table.

Their latest win saw them dramatically overturn a 20-point deficit against Huddersfield Giants in golden point extra time.

However, in contrast, the Saints produced a dominant 34-6 victory against the Catalans Dragons to get their season back on track.

Agar is excited by what the match might deliver but insists his side have to produce a much-improved performance in order to maintain their winning run.

“We were due to play St Helens after their game against Castleford in March just before the lockdown.” Agar said.

“I do not think that they were firing on all cylinders back then. They had an emphatic 2019 season of course but opened up this year with a struggle.

“They did pick up a few injuries whereas we were playing just fine so we were confident back then.

“But then we did watch their game against Catalans and I was impressed by the rugby they produced.

“They looked as though they really mean business. The speed of how they played the game was reminiscent of them getting back to their best.

“Their forwards showed no mercy and allowed their backs to exploit plenty of space so we have to be on guard throughout the 80 minutes.

“Hopefully, it will be an exciting game. It is a fixture that could really define our season.

“A win would be priceless but I feel as though this will be our toughest challenge so far and only our best performance will get us those valuable two points.”
