Harry Newman’s season is all but over after suffering a suspected broken leg in the Rhinos 41-16 win over Hull KR.
The 20-year-old was stretchered from the field in the 31st minute following a collision with a Rovers defender.
After the game, Leeds head coach Richard Agar confirmed the worst possible news in a big blow for the Rhinos and their young centre.
“Harry Newman has definitely broken his leg,” he said. “There was some fear that he has broken his rib as well but they are saying that has settled down in the ambulance.
“He was on his way for x-rays and it will depend on what they tell us, how they operate and what the next step is.
“Whether it will need further looking at or just put a pot on and let it heal nicely.
“It is very difficult to estimate what the result will be but it will probably be a three to six month job.”
For the second consecutive week Leeds made light work of Hull KR to keep themselves in play-off contention, however Agar couldn’t hide from the fact that Newman’s injury had overshadowed the win.
He added: “You could hear him in a lot of distress from the stands. We love him to bits, he is a great young player and has the world at his feet.
“So it is a huge blow for him. We will do our best to keep his spirits up and get him the best possible care.
“Typical of Harry, he gave us the thumbs up to us in the stand. He is a great kid and a great rugby league player so it is difficult day to see such a player cop such an injury.”
