Adrian Morley says there is “a lot of issues” at Super League club but there is hope

Warrington Wolves started the season with a statement win over Leeds Rhinos but their brilliant form was stunted by defeats to Wigan Warriors and St Helens.

They won their first eight games of the season but things have really stalled since then and their hopes of finishing top have evaporated and their play-off hopes are less concrete than before with the Rhinos and others putting the pressure on.

Speaking of the Rhinos, things did not look great for the Wolves after their defeat to Leeds.

Adrian Morley even suggested that it appeared like there were “a lot of issues” at the club on The Last Tackle:

“Looking at Warrington, not just the loses but it’s how they’ve been losing. It looks like a club and a team that are really lacking on confidence.

“I remember watching them against Leeds the week before they were really really poor; they got booed off at half time off the faithful, they got booed off at full time and I just thought ‘there’s a lot of issues here’.”

However, those issues seemed to dissipate last week against St Helens:

“Looking back at the result against St Helens, even though they did get beat, you could see Daryl Powell, his demeanour after the game he was very upbeat and I thought it was their performance.

“I think that particular result, even though they didn’t win they could have won it and possibly should have won it.”

The Wolves take on bitter rivals Wigan Warriors today.

The two sides go into the game fourth an fifth in the league come play-off time despite the fact that there is only one place between them the difference between fourth and fifth can be quite significant as fourth gets home advantage in the play-offs whilst fifth can say farewell to their home ground as soon as the regular season comes to a close.

If Warrington lose it will also keep them within touching distance to the clubs outside the top six and with tough games against Catalans Dragons, away to Leeds and against a resurgent Wakefield will leave them in jeopardy.
