Warrington Wolves test their title credentials against second place Wigan Warriors tonight.
It is a huge game between two rivals in front of a sellout crowd and it is a chance for Warrington to generate even more momentum after last week’s gutsy win over Catalans Dragons.
Former Warrington star thinks it could Warrington’s year in 2023 saying on The Last Tackle:
“It wasn’t their year last year but it could be this year.
“Last year they wouldn’t have a chance at winning that game away from home against the Catalans. Winning breeds confidence and they’ve got a massive pack, very very tough to play against they’re just wiping the floor with certain teams.
“I thought it was a very very gutsy and tricky win at the weekend.”
He explained how last year’s 11th place was the best thing that could have happened:
“I think in hindsight probably the best thing that ever happened to Warrington was that it was so bad. I think if they’d have done mediocre then they wouldn’t have changed a lot.
“The transformation they’ve got now from absolutely terrible last year to almost unplayable at times this year, and the transformation in form.
“I think George Williams is playing as good as I’ve ever seen him regardless of Canberra or Wigan, I just think he looks that fully dominant complete half-back behind a great pack.
“Then you’ve got Matt Dufty at the back who’s got that X factor and without all them combinations they’d lose that game at the weekend.”
