There are more huge Super League fixtures coming as Leeds Rhinos take on Hull KR, Wigan Warriors battling Warrington Wolves and big games in the relegation scrap as Hull FC and Castleford Tigers collide after Huddersfield Giants and Wakefield Trinity meet.
Wakefield are now just two points behind Cas in the relegation battle and could be level on points with the Tigers by the time the Tigers take on Hull FC away from home.
That is one fascinating element of the Super League table as is the race for for the top six. If Warrington lose to Wigan they could be dragged into the mix whilst the winner of Leeds and Hull KR could move level on points with Salford Red Devils ahead of their clash with Leigh Leopards.
Hull FC are also in the mix but for Leeds this is a similar situation to 2022 when they stormed to the Grand Final.
The question now is, can they do it again.
Paul Sculthorpe looked to answer that question on The Last Tackle: “You look at some of the players on their books and some of the performances they’ve turned in this year.
“They’ve had some tremendous performances, the one at Wigan springs to mind; but they’ve had some dreadful performances, it’s just that lack of consistency within the squad.”
Meanwhile former Rhino Adrian Morley suggested that they could again defy the odds and be crowned Super League Champions: “But they can still make the playoffs; them along with Hull. They always time their run, Leeds. This time of year they always seem to make a push for the playoffs as they did last year, they went all the way to Old Trafford; they’ll be hoping to emulate that.”
The Rhinos are the only club to ever win the Grand Final from outside the top four. They did so in consecutive seasons from fifth in 2011 and 2012.
They defeated St Helens and Warrington Wolves in back to back Grand Finals. They are hoping for a repeat of that this year and of course emulating the run of form that took them to the decider last year.
