Adrian Lam to seek answers from RFL over Leigh Leopards ‘No Try’

Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam has revealed that he’ll speak with the RFL to gain clarification on some of the decisions from his side’s narrow victory over Huddersfield Giants this weekend.

The Leopards leapfrogged managerless Huddersfield with a 20-16 victory thanks to tries from Darnell McIntosh, Kai O’Donnell and Zak Hardaker and a good kicking game from Matt Moylan.

Lachlan Lam also starred, setting up two tries in quick succession midway through the game.

The result confined Huddersfield to just one win from ten, and saw Leigh jump to eighth in the league.

However, it wasn’t all smiles from Adrian Lam after the game, who said: “I’m very frustrated today in a lot of aspects, but probably more so with the non-flow of the game.

“There were a lot of decisions there that were not called for or that were missed and none bigger than Darnell McIntosh’s try. Because there were so many stop-starts, we couldn’t find a rhythm and get going.

“We probably have ourselves to blame a bit as well with a couple of really crucial penalties and errors again but we’ll take the two points, we need that, we’ll nudge up a ladder a little bit and try and build some momentum off the back of that.”

McIntosh, after scoring an easy first-half try, was denied a second when the video referee determined his acrobatics hadn’t been enough, and Lam, frustrated, continued: “I thought that was a try every day of the year. A hundred times out of a hundred.

“I don’t understand why just because it’s gone up as a ‘No Try’, they try to see things that may be a 50-50 and find ‘No Try’ in that.

“They’re big moments in the game, that could have cost us the game. So I’m really frustrated with that and disappointed with that. We’ll talk to the powers that be after today’s event to make sure we don’t come up with that outcome again.”

Barrie McDermott also voiced his frustrations with the video referee process at the weekend.

The match officials did make the game a dull affair and there should be an inquest on how it was refereed
