Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam has praised his side after reaching the play-offs with a victory over St Helens.
Despite a terrible start to the 2024 campaign, the Leopards look closer to their exploits of 2023, which included a run to the Grand Final.
They’ve won 11 of their last 13 games, and this made reaching the play-offs a possibility.
Now, they’ve got an away eliminator game to look forward to against Paul Rowley’s Salford Red Devils.
Adrian Lam praises “incredible” Leigh Leopards after latest feat
Speaking in the post-match press conference after defeating Saints, Lam explained his pride for his side: “I think what was great about tonight was we landed on the back of the 12-all and we had really one chance to nail the game in the last part of the game, we finally got a chance down there and we went band and iced that opportunity so well which is what I’m proud of.
“I’m really proud of the team, that’s my team that can do that and in one of the biggest games of the season and back to 12 all with momentum against, to do that was just incredible.”
He also singled out Ricky Leutele for praise, saying: “I thought Ricky’s actions and his defence were unbelievable. He’s probably the most physically tough defensive centre in the competition.
There was little room for error for the Leopards due to their slow start if they wanted to reach the play-offs, and Lam continued: “For three months, from the halfway point of the season, if we had slipped up once more than what we’ve done, then this game would be null and void tonight.
“How incredible that is to give ourselves a chance tonight meant we kept that in mind and kept in mind that we wanted to respond to the Hull loss. I thought we did really well tonight, so hopefully we’re back on the horse.”
