Adrian Lam on “out of control” Derek Beaumont as he says game needs more men like him “to survive”

Leigh Centurions’ 2022 campaign has to go down as one of the best in Championship history.

They lost just one league game which came in Round Two winning the next 25 as well as a semi-final and Grand Final to secure promotion.

The only other game they lost this year was a narrow defeat to Super League Hull KR in the Challenge Cup.

That saw the Centurions enter the 1895 Cup which they won against Featherstone at Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium. That was the first of three pieces of silverware the Centurions have lifted in 2022 as they also lifted the Championship’s League Leaders’ Sheild.

A special season which has yielded a place in Super League for 2022 and although there have been plenty of stars on the field, three men have been at the heart of it.

Coach Adrian Lam, Director of Rugby and mastermind behind plenty of signings Chris Chester and the man who brought them together owner Derek Beaumont.

After securing promotion last night, Lam praised the other two members of this trinity on Premier Sports.

On Derek Beaumont, he said: “Derek is passionate and a little bit out of control at times, I know he’ll be okay with me saying that because he is because he loves the club.

“We need people like him in our sport at every level. These changes with IMG and how we move forward, we need that financial backing or else we don’t survive.”

Having said that the sport needs more people like Beaumont, he then said he’d like to see Chris Chester play a part with the RFL: “Chris Chester has been unbelievable for me. A breath of fresh air for me and someone I like to work with and moving forward hopefully he’ll play a part with the RFL in some capacity with administration.”
