Adrian Lam has made just one change to his Leigh Leopards squad to take on Batley Bulldogs in the Challenge Cup this weekend. Leigh have made an unbeaten start to the season in all competitions with last week’s draw with Hull FC the only blotch on their record so far.
They’ll have no intention of seeing that record slip against Championship outfit Batley as they look to seal their spot in the hat for Monday’s Cup quarter-final draw. Lam is giving the Bulldogs the respect they deserve, too, with the head coach naming his strongest possible team for the contest.
Gareth O’Brien is the only man to drop out of the fold and he does so after picking up a head knock at the MKM Stadium last Thursday. As such, it seems Ben McNamara could be set to get his first run out of the season in the scrum-half position.
The former Hull FC youngster has had a watching brief so far, but he’ll step in alongside Lachlan Lam and attempt to put his best foot forward. Lam has also confirmed that Aaron Pene will get a run out against the Bulldogs on Sunday, with his last outing coming in the Cup against Workington Town.
Darnell McIntosh has been included and it seems the winger could be set to make a return from injury, too, after missing the opening few weeks of the season due to an issue picked up while in Lanzarote on the club’s pre-season camp.
Batley haven’t communicated their squad just yet, at the time of writing, but they’ll be without Dane Manning, who has been handed an eight game ban for his actions in a brawl. Eliot Peposhi and Sam Marshall look set to feature, though, after joining the club on loan from Bradford Bulls and Warrington Wolves respectively.
Leigh Leopards: David Armstrong, Darnell McIntosh, Tesi Niu, Umyla Hanley, Lachlan Lam, Owen Trout, Edwin Ipape, Jack Hughes, Isaac Liu, Aaron Pene, Alec Tuitavake, Matt Davis, Brad Dwyer, Keanan Brand, Louis Brogan, Ethan O’Neill, Andrew Badrock, Ben McNamara, Nathan Wilde, Bailey Hodgson, AJ Towse.
