Adrian Lam has his say on George Williams

When George Williams found himself heading out of Canberra Raiders earlier in the season, there seemed like there would just be one destination for him.

After seven seasons at Wigan and 172 appearances later, the English halfback made the trip to the other side of the world in a bid to further establish himself as one of the world’s best.

Unfortunately, Williams had spent a year-and-a-half at Canberra following a big-money move from Wigan ahead of the 2020 season, but claims of homesickness plagued the last few months of his time with the Raiders.

The the Green Machine’s CEO Don Furner then decided to release Williams immediately instead of waiting until the end of the season.

After waiting patiently for his debut, the 26-year-old has seemingly settled in well at the Halliwell Jones Stadium and now Wigan boss Adrian Lam will face Williams for the first time since the move at the Magic Weekend.

Lam spoke about meeting the halfback after the Warriors’ 22-0 victory over Castleford last night.

“He’s found his way there and he’s got a lot of mates here obviously,” Lam said.

“There’ll be a bit of banter back and forth during the week, but we will enjoy this win over the next 24 hours.

“It’s been quite an emotional journey the past few weeks or so.”
