Adrian Lam explains loss to Wigan Warriors

Speaking after his side’s 34-6 defeat to Wigan Warriors tonight, Leigh Leopard boss Adrian Lam explained what went wrong for the Leopards despite leading 6-0 early in the game.

“We just ran out of gas. There was plenty of energy in our performance but we didn’t play in the key areas of the field,” Lam said on Sky Sports.

“We made a few critical errors and conceded points and that hurt us.”

Asked if the loss of Gareth O’Brien after a late hit from Jake Wardle hurt his side, Lam said:

“He is a big part of us, very influential with the way we attack. When he went down, it disrupted our team.

“You have to deal with that, it played a part but Wigan defended very well tonight.”

Lam also had his say on one of his former players in the shape of Wigan Warriors star Bevan French who picked up the Man of the Match as he moved to fullback.

He said:

“He probably should have been back there sooner, he was outstanding tonight, everything he touched turned to gold.”

Overall, Lam was proud of his side: “It’s okay, the result is not ideal and it is a big scoreline but we will learn from it.

“I am pretty proud of my team for their efforts tonight.”
