Adrian Lam confirms Leigh Leopards injury woes after huge Catalans win

Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam has confirmed a number of injury issues were sustained in the club’s 34-6 win over Catalans Dragons.

Umyla Hanley scored a hat trick as Leigh ran in six tries to make it three wins from three to start the season, condemning Catalans to a third straight loss.

Whilst the Leopards were brilliant, Catalans made it easy for them but Adrian Lam will take that any day after his side fought hard in Rounds One and Two to earn wins over Wigan and Huddersfield.

Speaking post-match on Sky Sports, Lam gave a nod to the Man of the Match Hanley, stating: “He was awesome tonight wasn’t he but that’s been coming, he had a great pre-season.”

Hanley had started the 2024 season in brilliant try-scoring form but the results didn’t come for Leigh, something that is a stark contrast to 2025 and the Leopards boss commented upon that.

He said: “It’s different to last year which is nice but we’ve just got to keep it real, keep our feet grounded and keep working hard.”

Next up for the Leopards is a trip to the MKM Stadium to face Hull FC, who also won on Friday night, but Leigh might be short on a few players.

David Armstrong missed the game whilst Frankie Halton wasn’t named in the 21-man squad after joining the injury list alongside Josh Charnley and Darnell McIntosh, although Lam tried to look at the positives of the injuries.

He revealed: “It looks like there are four or five boys who have picked up niggles which isn’t good but it tests the squad.

“We had a debut tonight with AJ Towse who was great and Bailey Hodgson at full-back was outstanding so we might have to dig deeper into the squad and check a couple of the other boys.”

On those who had picked up knocks, Lam highlighted forwards Robbie Mulhern and Alec Tuitavake, confirming: “I think Rob (Mulhern) is a slight tear of the calf so fingers crossed it’s not too bad and Alec (Tuitavake) just twisted his ankle so we’ll have a look at him tomorrow or the day after.

“We’ve just come off a five-day turnaround which is half the problem and then we’re into a six-day next week which isn’t ideal and is pretty tough on the squad but we’ll power on.”

Over 8,000 turned up to watch the match with those fans rewarded with a brilliant performance and Lam praised the attendance figure.

He said: “It was an unbelievable crowd. It’s a great job that Derek and the board have done so to get those numbers here and nearly fill the stadium is outstanding. They turn out for the boys and the boys are turning up for them so there’s a great feel around the place at the moment.”
