“A really poor side…” – Super League star has honest say on rivals

Super League

Castleford Tigers are set to take on Warrington Wolves in Round Three of the Betfred Super League.

There has a lot been made about both of these two teams and now former Leeds Rhinos star Alex Mellor on his return to Super League action has spoken about Castleford’s opponents this week.

He said that Warrington can be “a great side” but also “a really poor side.”

He said on Tigers TV: “With Warrington, you can either get a great side or a really poor side. As a team, we determine which side you get from Warrington.

“If we let them play we’ll end up getting a really strong, physical, side that are going to come and bash the front door in.

“But if we take it to them and change that in our favour, we will hopefully get a team that shut up shop and might take a backward step.”

Super League star assesses club’s start to the season

This came as Mellor reflected on Castleford’s start to the season and how the club is slowly developing under Craig Lingard.

Mellor said: “I feel like it’s coming. I feel like it’s so close. There’s probably just been a few moments in games that have let us down so far this season which led to big momentum swings. If we put that to bed and deal with things better, I think we’ll get a string of wins going.

“It has been a real buy-in this year. We are a really close-knit group. Craig has led that and brought us together really well.

“Of course, togetherness only gets you so far. We still need to have ice in our veins at certain moments and learn how to cope with different situations which we are doing.

“We are getting there and I’m sure within the next couple of weeks we’ll start to put some really good performances together.”

Castleford will be hoping to surprise Warrington and undermine their win over Hull FC last week and halt their momentum following that impressive win.

The Tigers will want a better start to the season after last season.
