Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR served up a golden point thriller, Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves met in a fast paced battle and St Helens were beaten by Catalans Dragons in a so called “Grand Final dress rehearsal” in a brilliant weekend for Super League, as per usual.
We also saw two huge games in the relegation scrap. Wakefield Trinity went to Huddersfield Giants on Friday night hoping to make it three wins on the spin and four wins in five games as they gun for for survival but they were well beaten by Ian Watson’s side.
This gave Castleford Tigers a huge opportunity to take a four point lead on their West Yorkshire rivals in the race for survival but Hull FC put them away to sustain their play off hopes.
The action concluded with a brilliant clash between Salford Red Devils and Leigh Leopards which ended 24-22 in Leigh’s favour.
Now they turn their attention to the Challenge Cup semi-finals as they take on St Helens.
Wigan and Hull KR meanwhile will meet in the other semi as everyone turns to focus on the final four of the oldest competition in Super League.
But as is always the case, before we can look at that there was the case of the disciplinary panel.
Eight players have been charged by the Match Review Panel. However, seven of them have only been fined.
The only player banned is Liam Hood for dangerous contact in their defeat against Huddersfield Giants.
This means all the players who were set to feature in the Challenge Cup semi-finals will be able to.
Following the latest round of Betfred Super League fixtures, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:
Liam Hood (Wakefield Trinity) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice
