FIFTH Super League club joins race for star halfback

One, two, three, four and now five Super League clubs are said to be in for George Williams after Wakefield were the latest side to throw their hat into the ring.

Chris Chester, in his pre-match conference for Sunday’s home game against Huddersfield, stated that Trinity had made a serious offer to the ex-Canberra man.

“We’re probably one of the only clubs with salary cap space, let’s put it that way; budget wise we don’t know really about that,” Chester said.

“But we’ve got the space; he’s a fantastic player – I text his agent yesterday with a cheeky message to bear us in mind in case anything arises.

“I’m pleased he’s coming back to Super League; we never like to see our own go over to Australia and it’s important we keep all our best players in this competition.

“There are a lot of clubs after his signature, but not many clubs will have that salary cap space like we do.

“We have a very, very small chance, but I just wanted to let his agent know.”
