Leigh Leopards injury update: star to miss a month’s action

Leigh Leopards Adrian Lam

Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam has provided an injury update ahead of their game against Hull KR on Saturday, and it comes with bad news for Leopards fans.

Despite a rocky start to the season, Leigh are coming off the back of four games unbeaten, including a huge 40-12 victory over Paul Rowley’s Salford Red Devils, and will be looking to capitalise on their improved form against a KR side that had somewhat of a reality check in a heavy Challenge Cup semi-final defeat earlier this month.

However, if they are to pick up a victory at the weekend, they’ll have to do it without a key member of the squad.

Prop Robbie Mulhern was forced off the pitch during their victory over Huddersfield Giants, and after missing games due to injury earlier this season, he looks set to have another spell on the sidelines.

Speaking in a press conference, head coach Adrian Lam said on Mulhern: “We get some scans tonight and will know by Thursday.

“We fear that may be four weeks plus, but fingers crossed, it’s not like that… it’s looking that way.

“We’ll get on with it as we have done, but he’s going to be a big miss.”

His previous time out was due to a calf injury, and it’s again a calf injury that will keep him out of the next few weeks.

Lam revealed: “It’s the other calf, ironically.

“He’s frustrated that he’s not playing because he loves it around here, and pulling on the Leopards jersey, and when he’s played, he’s lifted us to another level.

“He’s had a similar influence to Tom Amone and Edwin Ipape. We’re going to miss him but it gives us another opportunity.”

In his absence, Ben Nakubuwai may again be called upon, while Nathan Wilde could also push for a starting place.

Also missing the game is Gareth O’Brien, who is continuing his recovery from a calf tear, meaning Matt Moylan will again likely line up at fullback, continuing his good run of form.
However, Oli Holmes and Ben McNamara could make a return to the side.
