Why five Super League stars have been BANNED

It was another busy week for the disciplinary panel with Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves and Castleford Tigers stars all charged.

But not everyone of those charges yielded a ban as the RFL remain committed to their approach prioritising fines over bans.

However, Leeds Rhinos star Blake Austin has been banned for a Grace C charge of dangerous contact whilst Sam Kasiano of the Warrington Wolves has been given the same punishment for a Grade B Dangerous contact charge.

Continuing the theme of dangerous contact bans, Liam Watts has been banned for two games for a Grade C dangerous contact charge whilst Romain Navarrette has likewise been banned for one game for a Grade B offence.

Of the nine charges seven were for dangerous contact.

But why were these players banned? Here’s our player by player guide about what the RFL said about each player.

Blake Austin:

Dangerous Contact – Defender uses any part of their body forcefully to twist, bend or
otherwise apply pressure to the limb or limbs of an opposing player in a way that involves
an unacceptable risk of injury to that player

Sam Kasiano:

Dangerous Contact – Defender uses any part of their body forcefully to twist, bend or
otherwise apply pressure to the limb or limbs of an opposing player in a way that involves
an unacceptable risk of injury to that player.

Liam Watts:

Dangerous Contact – Defender uses any part of their body forcefully to twist, bend or
otherwise apply pressure to the limb or limbs of an opposing player in a way that involves
an unacceptable risk of injury to that player.

Romain Navarrete:

Dangerous Contact – Defending player, in or after effecting a tackle, uses any part of their
body forcefully to bend or apply unnecessary pressure to the head and/or neck and/or
spinal column of the tackled player so as to keep the tackled player at a disadvantage in or
after the tackle

Another player who was also banned, but not for dangerous contact, was Salford’s Ami Borough with the versatile player copping a Grade B charge and one match ban for Contrary Behaviour.
