Looking ahead to the 2025 season there is still plenty of recruitment to be done and with several Super League clubs having free overseas quota spots, there could be an influx of NRL signings.
As it stands, ten teams Super League teams look set to have overseas quota spots for 2025 in the form of Castleford Tigers, Catalans Dragons, Huddersfield Giants, Hull FC, Leeds Rhinos, Leigh Leopards, London Broncos, Salford Red Devils, Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors.
London are expected to be relegated whilst fellow strugglers Hull FC are reported to have signed Jordan Rapana and are heavily linked with Cade Cust, meaning they may be done for overseas recruiting.
However, that still leaves a handful of outfits looking to bolster their squad and with just shy of 70 NRL players off contract at the end of the 2024 campaign, there is a large pool of talent to pick from.
We’ve highlighted five current NRL players whose deals are expiring that would be good targets for Super League sides.
Five NRL players available to Super League sides
Daejarn Asi
First up is half-back Daejarn Asi who will reportedly be ‘making a move’ to Super League for 2025 after reports down under last month emerged. Half-back needy teams such as Castleford could be interested in the Parramatta youngster.
Mat Croker
Croker looks set to be one of the victims of Newcastle Knights’ uncontrollable salary and per The Newcastle Herald will not be offered a new contract. The forward has played 57 games in the NRL since 2021 and with reports suggesting that no NRL teams are interested in him, the 24-year-old could be on the way to Super League.
Jake Granville
Off-contract North Queensland Cowboys hooker was confirmed as exiting the club earlier in the year and he’s caught the attention of Super League sides. Just recently, Huddersfield Giants’ boss Luke Robinson revealed that Granville’s name had been “tossed up”.
Ben Murdoch-Masila
A name that is familiar to British fans, BMM is off contract with St George Illawarra Dragons and could be one set for a return to Super League. His pedigree speaks for itself with over 40 tries during his time in England. Position versatility within the forward pack is another plus for the man who will turn 34 just before the season starts.
