It seems that Parramatta Eels half-back Daejarn Asi will be heading to Super League.
This is via The Daily Telegraph, who say he’ll make the move despite being an NRL starter for much of the current campaign.
His starting role has been down to a number of reasons, including the team as a whole struggling and an injury to star halfback Mitchell Moses.
Despite this, he would likely be a top signing for a Super League side, with extensive NRL experience starting with a try-scoring debut in 2020.
He’s also versatile, having played at fullback and in the centres in addition to playing roles in the halves this year, while Asi’s ability also extends to goal-kicking.
Which Super League sides could he sign for?
3 Super League sides that could sign starting NRL halfback
Hull FC
Jordan Abdull and Jake Trueman could be a deadly pairing next year, if the latter can stay fit, but another playmaker could be important as Adbull slows down towards the end of his career.
They’ve shown a willingness to make a number of signings already – as you already know – and due to four quota players departing this year, they’ve got plenty of space for overseas signings to help them improve for the 2025 Super League season.
Castleford Tigers
The Tigers have a quota spot free for next year, and will almost certainly be looking for a halfback after Jacob Miller’s recent performances.
Rowan Milnes has improved over the course of the season, and his goal-kicking ability is impressive, but a second player alongside him would be incredibly useful for Craig Lingard’s side.
In addition, the loss of Jack Broadbent in particular, as well as the Tigers’ lack of centres, means his ability to play at full-back and in the centres could prove invaluable for the side looking to improve on this season’s results.
Salford Red Devils
Cade Cust, who only signed this season, seems like he could be on his way to Hull FC, meaning the Red Devils could look for another halfback for next season.
Jayden Nikorima and Marc Sneyd haven’t quite clicked yet, since the signing of the former due to being released from Catalans Dragons, and Daejarn Asi could push both of them to improve.
Again, Marc Sneyd may slow down next season, meaning Asi could prove valuable from the bench even if he doesn’t start games.
