North Queensland Cowboys’ all-time top try-scorer could be heading to Super League, after his exit was confirmed this week.
Kyle Feldt will leave the club at the end of the 2024 season, leaving the Cowboys for the first time in his career.
This comes after progressing through the club’s academy and scoring a key try when they won their first-ever Premiership in 2015.
He leaves alongside Jake Granville, another member of the Premiership-winning side, with the two to be honoured by the club on Thursday night.
St Helens
St Helens are losing a big name next season, with perennial number two Tommy Makinson heading to Catalonia.
They’ll be looking to make a signing that can make a real impact on the wing, as they’ll undoubtedly be looking to remain a side at the top of the Super League table.
An all-time great try-scorer, there’s no reason as to why Feldt couldn’t be that man.
The club is in a bad position right now, and could potentially drop out of the playoffs for the first time, but will want a statement signing to get them back where they want to be.
Hull FC
Every player on planet Earth is getting linked with Hull FC at the moment, but it’s with good reason – they’re looking to do a major rebuild of the players on the pitch to give new head coach John Cartwright and Director of Rugby Richie Myler the foundations to get the club where they want to be.
Big NRL signing Jayden Okunbor has failed to live up to expectations on the wing, being loaned out to RFL Championship side Bradford Bulls, while a number of wing options are off-contract at the end of the season or have already been confirmed to be departing.
Therefore, a space for a new winger will be available, and after the high-profile departures of players such as Nu Brown and Tex Hoy, cap and quota space will surely also be free.
This gives them all sorts of opportunities, and Feldt could certainly be one of them. They’ll be hoping he’s part of what they need to get away from the foot of the Super League table.
Leigh Leopards
The Leopards are undoubtedly looking for an outside-back after a huge number of confirmed departures, starting with Tom Briscoe earlier this season – while stars such as Zak Hardaker are also on their way out.
David Armstrong has signed on a three-year contract for next season, but will likely be lining up in the number one spot, and this ambition to make big NRL signings could be furthered by an option on the wing – by the name of Kyle Feldt.
Their opportunity to sign big names would be improved if they managed to pull off one of the biggest comebacks in Super League history by making it into the playoffs at the expense of St Helens or Catalans Dragons.
