3 clubs that should be in for Jake Connor in 2025

Jake Connor Huddersfield Giants

Jake Connor has been made available to clubs on a loan from Huddersfield Giants, head coach Ian Watson has confirmed, but he’s yet to have any sides sign him.

Therefore, it seems that the club would be happy to let him go – despite him being contracted for the 2025 season.

He was the starting fullback until the Challenge Cup semi-final defeat to Warrington Wolves – since then he hasn’t started a game at all.

There was, it seems, interest from Leeds Rhinos recently. Huddersfield boss, Watson, confirmed that the Rhinos had enquired about taking Connor on loan, but the advance had been rejected, with Connor travelling to France with the Giants squad that lost against the Catalans Dragons.

With all that in mind, here are three other clubs that should be in for Jake Connor in 2025.

Castleford Tigers

The Tigers have already let Danny Richardson and Jack Broadbent go this year, and will probably look to make a statement back signing ahead of next season.

Tex Hoy looks to have solved their fullback problem for now, while Sam Wood looks good in the centres, but the quality in the squad is few and far-between – while Connor’s versatility means he could also be an alternative to Jacob Miller or Rowan Milnes in the halves.

Being a halfback option feels like the most realistic reason that Craig Lingard would want to make the signing.

Castleford have just one quota spot available currently, after Charbel Tasipale left, and they will likely look to make a forward signing with that space, meaning they may have to look closer to home for reinforcements in the backs.

Hull FC

The club Connor signed for the Giants from, Hull FC could do with plenty of signings ahead of next season, and they’ve started the moves since Richie Myler was brought in as Director of Rugby.

They’ve already signed Zak Hardaker and Ed Chamberlain in the centre position for 2025, while Hardaker is also capable of playing as a fullback.

Hull Live have suggested that Hull FC would prefer to look for an overseas fullback for next season, and they’ve got two free quota spots, as Treigh Stewart won’t be signing now, and Franklin Pele has left the club.

However, Connor’s ability in the halves – a position he played for much of last season – could potentially prove vital.

FC haven’t really had a halfback pairing nailed down this season, with Jake Trueman and Ben Reynolds, and Jack Charles and Morgan SMith amongst the options they’ve tried.

Therefore, that’s not a position that’s nailed down at all, and the signing of Connor could be an easy fix.

They’ve announced three signings so far – Cam Scott from Hull FC and Catalans duo Mike McMeeken and Tom Johnstone, but they’ll surely have more lined up as they expect to be a Super League club next season.

They’ve been storming through the RFL Championship this season, picking up maximum points, and

Noah Booth and Lachlan Walmsley have had runouts at fullback this year, but it’s Max Jowitt for his hometown side that remains the first choice in that position.

Their halfback pairing of Luke Gale and Mason Lino is pretty nailed on, it seems, although Jowitt, Liam Kay and Myles Lawford are amongst the option that have played there this year.

Connor is a natural option to provide genuine competition in both positions, while they seem much less set on their centres, with Oliver Pratt the only one to be consistently selected.

This could be a smart move for them.
