22-point comeback condemns Justin Holbrook’s Gold Coast Titans to heart-breaking defeat

Today Canberra Raiders equalled their biggest comeback ever overturning a 22-0 deficit against the Gold Coast Titans to claim a famous win.

It condemns former St Helens boss Justin Holbrook to a second defeat of the season as his team continue to be red hot in attack but leaky in defence.

Their potency in attack was there for all to see as they cruised 22-0 up inside 36 minutes against the Raiders today. Phillip Sami got the scoring underway before Brian Kelly and Beau Fermor hit the Raiders with quick fire tries.

Tino Fa’asuamaleaui added their fourth making it 22-0 four minutes before the break. They looked in total control and looked set to take a four try lead going into the interval but a score from Semi Valemei gave Canberra some hope of a comeback but at 22-4 at the break with the Raiders completing at 57%, a comeback seemed unlikely.

However that soon changed when Matthew Timoko scored six minutes into the second half before adding a second five minutes later making it 22-14. Sebastian Kris’ try then made the Titans sweat prior to a leveller from Charnze Nicoll-Klostad. This gave Brad Schneider the chance to win it with four minutes remaining.

After a shocking day with the boot up until then, Schneider held his nerve to complete a brilliant comeback at the Titans’ expense with a fairly routine conversion having created the try for his fullback a minute prior with a neat grubber kick.
